Every hosted AI chat starts the same way: a sign-up form. An email address, sometimes a phone number, a password, a date of birth, a checkbox. privstory starts by opening the app, because a desktop application running its own models has nobody to authenticate you to.

Why hosted chats need an account and this one doesn't

An account isn't there for your benefit. A hosted service needs it to attribute compute costs, enforce message quotas, apply a subscription, and keep your history on their servers between visits. All four of those exist because the model is running on their hardware.

privstory runs the model on yours. There is no compute to bill, no quota to enforce, no server-side history to look up, and therefore no identity to attach any of it to. The absence of a login isn't a feature that was added, it's what's left when the server is removed.

What you don't have to give up

No email address, so nothing to end up in a breach dump or a marketing list. No phone number, which several companion apps now request for verification. No password, so nothing to be reused or stolen. No date of birth or identity check.

There is also no profile to delete later. Deleting an account is a request you have to make and trust; here there is nothing to request, because nothing about you was ever recorded off your machine.

You can try it before deciding anything

The free version creates one character and one scene, with the full local chat and image generation working, not a trial that expires, and not a demo with the good parts disabled. You see the real thing before spending anything or telling anyone who you are.

If you later buy a license, that's a key you paste into Settings → License. It unlocks unlimited characters and scenes and moves between your own devices. It's still not an account: there's no profile behind it, and no login to remember.
