Why subscriptions are the norm and why this isn't one
A hosted service has a permanent cost per user: GPUs answering messages, storage holding conversations, bandwidth serving images. A recurring charge is the honest way to fund a recurring cost.
privstory has no recurring cost to fund. Your machine does the work, your disk holds the data. Once you have the app and its models, keeping it running costs nobody anything, so charging you monthly would be renting you something we aren't paying for.
What the license covers
The free version gives you one character and one scene, with the full local chat and image generation. It doesn't expire, and it isn't a stripped-down preview: it's the real app with a count limit.
A single purchase unlocks unlimited characters and unlimited scenes. Enter the key under Settings → License, and that's the last transaction. Prices are shown in Swiss francs.
No credits, no metering, no upsell
There is no credit balance to top up, no per-image charge, no faster tier, and no premium model held back for higher-paying users. Everyone runs the same local models at whatever speed their hardware manages.
There is also nothing to cancel, and no card on file quietly renewing. If you stop using the app, nothing continues to be charged, and if you come back in two years the license still works.
It moves with you
The license is per-device but portable. On the old machine, open Settings → License and choose Remove license to free the seat, then enter the same key on the new one.
That's deliberate: buying a desktop application shouldn't mean losing it when you replace your computer.
Common questions.
Is there any recurring charge at all?
No. It is a single purchase with no renewal, no credits and no per-message or per-image billing. Nothing is stored to charge again later.
Do I have to pay to try it?
No. The free version needs no account and no payment, and includes the full local chat and image generation for one character and one scene. Buy a license only if you want more of both.
What happens to my license if I get a new computer?
Remove the license on the old device under Settings → License to free the seat, then enter the same key on the new device. The key is yours to move as often as you need.
Do future versions cost extra?
The license unlocks unlimited characters and scenes in the app you bought. Since the app runs entirely on your machine, nothing stops working over time and there is no server that could be switched off underneath it.
